St. Francis in the Foothills is 100% solar powered!
The Environmental Team a.k.a. The Green Team has been busy
around St. Francis in reducing our footprint on the Earth. We have led Adult Education classes on human impact on the globe from peak oil to energy conservation and food choices. We work at both passive and active water harvesting on our campus to keep water on the site rather than funneling it off to the street. We participate in the Arizona Interfaith Power and Light consortium of faith groups, held a workshop at St. Francis on energy audits, called Cool Congregations and were given an award from AZIPL for being good stewards of the earth. During coffee hour we serve fairly traded organic coffee and we serve it in permanent cups. We are exploring ways to reduce our waste production and become more efficient in recycling. We continue to educate our members to be wise and responsible users of energy and recently, not only did we become 100% solar at St. Francis, we also were able to install two electric car chargers on the campus which naturally are also powered by the sun.
